Why Obedience?
When we decide to invite a dog into our homes, we have the American dream in mind. A faithful companion to share our day with, to love us unconditionally and with total adoration! A well mannered dog is a joy to have around. But just like our children, they do not come out of the womb knowing right from wrong. We have to teach them.
The best advice is to START TRAINING EARLY! Training a puppy is easier than training an adult dog because a puppy is more open to new ideas and has not yet developed “bad habits.” While it’s best to start young, the old saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is only partially true. It is never too late to train your dog, although it may take longer to retrain it to eliminate undesirable habits.
You should consider enrolling in classes instructed by trainers who have competed in obedience with their own dogs, and stay up-to-date on the latest training techniques. They have experience training all breeds of dogs and can help solve behavior problems. Most training centers accept all types of dogs, mixed breeds and purebreds, and prospective students are usually welcome to observe a class before signing up for a training course. There are numerous training centers in Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Pueblo.
A well trained dog is not only a joy to be around, but they are then able to become capable of offering us the true companionship we are seeking from our four-legged friends when we invite them into our families and homes.
